Description / Abstract:
OBJECT AND SCOPE
This Code defines procedures for the field performance of the pumping mode of pump/turbines. It define methods for ascertaining pump performance by measuring discharge (flow rate), head and power input to determine efficiency. Requirements are included for pretest arrangements, types of instruments, methods of measurement, testing procedures, methods of calculation and contents of test reports. The specified test procedures are believed to be capable of yielding results of the highest accuracy consistent with the best engineering knowledge and practice available at the date of this publication.
The Code contains mandatory test requirements and alternative methods of measurement. The proper parts of the Code should be applied to each test.
The Code is recommended for use in conducting acceptance tests, in which case deviations from the Code procedure must be agreed upon in writing prior to the test. In the absence of written agreement, applicable Code requirements shall be mandatory.
The Code on General Instructions (PTC-1) should be studied and followed in detail before formulating a procedure for a specific test.
The Code applies to any size or type of pump/turbine. It is particularly applicable to pump/turbines coupled to generator/motors.
All codes referenced shall be the latest revision as of the contract date.
