Description / Abstract:
This Standard covers the management of cleaning and cleanness
control of fluid systems and associated components for nuclear
power plants during manufacturing, construction, repairs, and
modifications. The Standard includes requirements for cleaning and
cleanness control of fluid systems and components which have been
identified as "safety related." These requirements should also be
considered in the cleaning and cleanness control of other fluid
systems and components. The Standard covers factors that shall be
considered to ensure an adequately clean fluid system or component
upon the completion of manufacturing, construction, repair, or
modification activities and covers all periods in which these
activities are conducted. This Standard is not a procedure for
cleaning and cleanness control, but provides a basis for
development of such procedures.
This Standard requires close attention to cleanness control
during these activities so that only flushing or rinsing may be
required to render the item ready for service. When more than a
flush or rinse is needed to produce the specified cleanness,
additional cleaning, in accordance with this Standard, may be
necessary.
This Standard is not intended to be used for items containing
liquid metals in liquid metal-cooled power plants. This Standard is
not intended to provide guidance for decontamination of
radioactively contamined items although its requirements may be
invoked in such operations if considered appropriate.
This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction wifh ANSI
N45.2, Quality Assurance Program Requirements for Nuclear Power
Plants.
