Description / Abstract: Scope and Purpose

The maximum acceptable concentrations of hydrogen fluoride and inorganic fluoride dusts applies to all places of employment and is intended to offer guidance in the design and operation of equipment and processes involving fluorides to provide appropriate protection for the health of workmen.

This standard shall consider only:

(1) Hydrogen fluoride (HF) among the gaseous fluorides.

(2) The fluoride ion (F) in inorganic dusts, even though aqueous solubility varies from readily soluble (NaF, KF, etc), to slightly soluble Na2AIF6 or cryolite), to very sparingly soluble (CaF2 and rock-phosphate).

This standard shall exclude the element (fluorine), and the fluorides of oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur, and toxic metals (such as beryllium and uranium).
