Description / Abstract: This specification2 covers two groups of chromium-molybdenum steel plates of five compositions intended for use in boilers and other pressure vessels designed for elevated temperature service.

Group I is composed of three grades, containing not more than 1.5 per cent chromium and designated A, B, and C.

Group II consists of two grades, containing between 2 per cent and 31 per cent chromium and designated D and E, intended for mildly corrosive service as well as for elevated temperature service.

The maximum thickness of plates of Group I and Group II is limited only by the ability of the selected composition to meet the mechanical tests. Welding technique is of funda- mental importance and it is presupposed that welding procedures will be in accordance with an approved method for these grades of materials. Supplementary requirements are provided for use when additional testing or inspection is desired. These shall apply only when specified individually by the purchaser in the order.

NOTE-The values stated in U.S. customary units are to be regarded as the standard. The metric equivalents of U.S. customary units may be approximate.
